The community cinema
Screen St Ives (SSI) is the community cinema for St Ives in Cambridgeshire.
We are based at the St Ives Corn Exchange and are supported by ACE, Friends of St Ives Corn Exchange, a registered charity. Our programme of twice-monthly screenings in Screen 1 and Screen 2 covers a wide variety of films, with the aim of enabling access to cinema, encouraging interest in film as an art form, and fostering a stronger sense of community within St Ives and the surrounding area. We champion local filmmakers and provide a space for a both regular and one-off film shows, including fund raising events. We have organised education courses with visiting tutors and we plan to offer new courses in the future. SSI is a member of Cinema For All, the industry body that represents the UK’s growing community cinema network.
Screen 1 films show on a five-metre screen in the spacious Charter Hall on the third Friday of each month. Screen 2 operates upstairs in the Tony Burgess Room, with seating capacity of 45, on the first Thursday of each month. Each screening includes a brief introduction and is sometimes preceded by a short film, perhaps by local filmmakers, including students from the nearby St Ivo School. Screen 2’s more intimate atmosphere allows for post-film discussions that are entirely optional.
We welcome everyone to come and share some of the world’s fantastic diversity of films – some new, some old, some little known gems, but all carefully selected for their quality and interest.
Doors open at 7.30pm for 8pm start for both screens. Refreshments are available before shows begin. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought in advance from the Corn Exchange or online at the Screen St Ives website.
ACE & SCREEN ST IVES
ACE has supported SSI since it was launched by a group of film enthusiasts in 2011. We work together to improve screening equipment and facilities for the various communities in our area. ACE played an important role in rescuing the historic Corn Exchange from dereliction in 2010. The building is owned by St Ives Town Council and is run by the Corn Exchange Community Interest Company (CIC) and ACE.
Address: The Corn Exchange, Pavement, St Ives, PE27 5AD.
