ACE – Friends of St Ives Corn Exchange
ACE is devoted to supporting the continued availability of a public amenity in the Town Centre.
ACE – ‘Action Corn Exchange’ was formed by a group of residents of St Ives who did not want to see the Corn Exchange sold. Having fought to prevent the Corn Exchange from sale and to ensure its reopening, ACE is committed to ensuring the long-term success and viability of this wonderful building and to safeguard its future for generations to come as the focus of community activity and an object of civic pride.
ACE, now transformed from an Action Group into the Friends of the Corn Exchange has undertaken to promote the use, availability and accessibility of the building for the community through the provision and support of volunteer helpers, and by organizing community events to enrich the lives of the people in the town.
The ACE Committee works alongside the Community Interest Company (CIC) which runs the building, and with the Centre Manager, Jim Burt.
As you see, this website is already a joint ACE/CIC venture.
The marketing and promotion of the building to all sectors of the community will be a key focus of ACE for the coming year, with the aim of creating a true sense of community in the town centre of St Ives.
ACE registered as a Charity on Nov 16th, 2010.
The Charity is established for the benefit of the residents of St Ives, Cambridgeshire and the neighbouring villages, hereinafter referred to as the ‘area of benefit’:

Volunteers
ACE members as part of the Corn Exchange volunteer group are working hard to assist the Centre Manager, Jim Burt to keep the Corn Exchange open frequently during the week, manning the Tourist Info point, and making it easier for people to view the building and make bookings.
Corn Exchange volunteers are also helping to set up for and dismantle after events, and their administrative, DIY and events organising skills have proved invaluable in these early days of the building.

Screen St Ives
St Ives Community Cinema
@ the Corn Exchange
During the consultation to save the Corn Exchange at the various ACE Exhibitions there was much support for the idea of a community cinema.
More recently a questionnaire was circulated which confirmed this support. Initial meetings were held and a separate Committee has been formed to take forward this project.

ACE has joined the BFFS (British Federation of Film Societies) and ‘Filmview’, which will ensure that we have a wide availability of film choice, and that we are registered for the payment of film royalties, and to take money at the door.
ACE aims to work with the IVO School and other local film-makers, including local junior schools to provide a showcase for local talent, and will be arranging film screenings for all sectors of the community.
Initial screenings have taken place with the aim of testing the available areas in the Corn Exchange and to build up support and funds for the projection equipment which will be required if films are to be shown in the main hall.
SCREEN ST IVES is not a film club – all films are open to all.
See the SCREEN ST IVES website for more information on future planned showings : www.screenstives.org.uk
We want to hear what you would like to see.
Please get in touch with your ideas, or if you would like to get involved.
